Each year Atlanta Photography Group (APG) presents Choice, an exciting exhibition featuring over 30 APG members’ work. Each artist has chosen one of their most stunning and innovative images from this year to present in this show. I chose a image in 2010 that I am very pleased with the final outcome. Both my subject and my self-portrait are present in this image.
A Moment in Time
This image of an amazing local character was taken in New Mexico. I shared my lunch with him and then asked him if I could take his picture. You can see my self portrait in the mirror reflection. This image hung in 2010 at the Atlanta Photography Group’s Gallery during their Photographer’s Choice annual exhibition.

That is so neat, John! Had to look close to see your self-portrait. (But I miss the squirrel.)
Thanks for sharing!
Both were taken on the same trip. If I remember it correctly, I think actually on the same day. The squirrel posed first in the morning and then my lunch partner at high noon. I have a huge image of this one hanging in my dining room. Glad I am in this image, makes it a self-portrait and a narrative portraiture.
Is that really his truck or just a prop? Such a kind looking man! Hey, that looks like the bungee cord, hanging down from inside the door, that you used on “Succumbing to the Law of Gravity!”
Absolutely! I lent the bungee cord to him after my jump…hehehehe. Just kidding. I met this man in Taos, NM and I was eating lunch that day and started sharing it with him. He was a sweet man and this was not his truck. It was the truck I parked next to to eat lunch. He had another truck which didn’t have as much character. I won’t ever forget him. He was a highlight of that trip. The other highlight was also a character in another truck.
